
About Sevenoaks Area Mind
Sevenoaks Area Mind is a mental health charity based in West Kent. We aim to be a major contributor
to the continued well-being of people experiencing mental distress in Sevenoaks and district.
Providing services such as accommodation with support to enabling local people to stay living as
independently as possible; to services offering peer support run by service users using their own
experiences to support and encourage others with similar difficulties.
Working towards recovery underpins all of our work within the organisation. Recovery is often
referred to as a process, a vision, our guiding principle and a journey for all. We beleive we assist the
recovary process of people accessing our services by:
- advancing the views, needs and ambitions of people with mental health problems through a
range of services, consultaion and peer support.
- challenging discrimination and promoting inclusion while Improving awarness & reduce the
stigma around mental illness with the support of Sevenoaks Mental Health Awareness Group
(SAMHAG)
- inspiring the development of quality services which reflect and engage the wider community.
One in four people experience mental ill health at some point in there lives & most of us, if not
experianced directley, know of a friend or relative who has. From the baby blues to berevment, Mental
illness can affect anyone regardless of standing or status. Each year more than 250,000 people are
admitted to psychiatric hospitals and over 4,000 people take their own lives.
